...24 I 18 K 31 Total 57 149 44 250 It will be seen the aggregate of losses en- umerated is somewhat larger than that giv- en by the Colonel in his report. This may be accounted for from the well known fact that in the active movements of a Regiment in the field, men frequently became sepa- rated from their commands, and in some in- stances did not find them for several days.
This may have been the case here, where the complicated and rapid movements of charge, retreat, and change of position made it very easy for a man to lose his regiment.
