Disheartened by his repeated reverses, he now withdrew his army, and Smith returned to Memphis with little more fighting.
We reached our camp at Memphis on the 24th of July, bringing with us nearly all of our wounded. The rebel wounded were properly dressed by our surgeons, and left with the citizens of Tupelo.
Smith estimated the rebel loss in this campaign at 2500. The federal loss did not exceed 600.
