To make so great a butchery that all the fields of the earth should be bathed in blood. I tore at them with my bayonet, and slashed them with a sword greater than any I should have possessed the power to wield, and then I saw that I had many arms, like the crudest idols of India, and I was death unto thousands, whirling my countless limbs to annihilate battalions and regiments.
