" The essence of parable obviously consists in this ; that its representations are typical and mediate, not literal and direct ; special and picturesque not abstract and philosophic ; moral in their unity and movement, not logical. Hence it will be found the fittest instru- ment in religion for the expression of Belief, of Worship, and of the sanctities of Conscience.
