Here, then, once more the scientific educationist begins to find himself in unexpected general under- standing with parson and priest. For he cannot exclude his growing conception of an evolutionist art, which shall increasingly aid and regulate human life. The Socratic ideal of the " birth-helper, " the Christian ideal of the Good Shepherd, must thus re- appear in our scientific and practical evolutionism.
