When, in describing his own personal part in a quarrel between Urban the Sixth and his cardinals, he found it impossible to be fair and to tell the whole truth, ^ when he paints the characters of Boniface the Ninth and Gregory the Twelfth in the darkest colours, concealing all their virtues and magnifying their faults, it is little wonder that his picture of Baldassare Cossa is disfigured by the bitterest party spirit.
