True to his word, he was holding a plump pheasant. Miranda had her back to him, and her long, thick tresses shielded her completely, but he knew she was naked. He fought with himself, and was about to turn away and give her a little more time, when she turned to the side and began to scrub her arm.

A cry of outrage came from his lips. Dropping the pheasant, he grabbed her hands to stop her from inflicting more pain on herself.
“No!” she screamed, wrenching free with a hysterical strength that took him completely by surprise.
