It is thus that in the physiological state the liver appears to have the same properties of fixation and reten- tion of the aromatic substances (particularly indol), as its cells isolated from the body have. Consequently we see in diseases of the liver, in simple insuffi- ciency, in cirrhosis, the aromatic bodies indican among others increase considerably in the urine. TOXICOLYTIC ACTION OF THE LIVER Last but not least, there remains for us to speak of the most important antitoxic action of the liver.
