Fitler, Mayor of the City of Philadelphia. Dear Sir : — I herewith forward a communication from William Dixey, Chief of Bureau of City Property, relative to making an appropriation for necessary repairs to Police Boat No. 1. Please transmit the same to Councils. I am, very respectfully, W. S. STOKLEY, Director. Bureau of City Property. Philadelphia, May 1, 1890. Hon. William S. Stokley, Director of the Department of Public Safety. My dear Sir : — In compliance with your direction, I made a care...ful inspection of the boiler of Police Boat No. 1 (William S. Stokley), and I find that it requires immediate attention, it being absolutely unsafe. It is necessary that the two (2) side sheets and back flue sheets of each furnace be cut out and new steel sheets be put in to about the height of eighteen (18) inches from the bottom of the boiler. I also find that an entire new trough or leg will be required, and that other minor repairs are necessary. In view of the above facts, I would respectfully suggest that the boat be withdrawn from service, as there is possible danger of accident, which might result in loss of life.
