This terra-cotta work was the first used on a large scale in America, and is said to be very durable and not costly. It is certainly effective, and gives to the exterior a rich and unique appearance. The main entrance is given a rich and handsome appearance by white marble steps, and polished granite columns, with terra-cotta capitals. In the Egyptian Room is a valuable and interesting collection of Egyptian antiquities acquired by the late Robert Hay of Scotland, purchased after his death, and presented to the Museum by Charles Granville Way.
