Certainly, only by such practice can we hope, with full intelligence, to enjoy the sono- rous movement and balance of Cicero's periods, the majestic march of the verse of Lucretius, and the exquisitely melodious cadences and wonderfully artistic blending of prolonged and shortened sounds in the lyrics of Catullus and of Horace.
