Two of the greatest works of the greatest philosophers of Greece were directly occupied with this subject. They were familiar to Cicero, as to all the accomplished Komans of his time. He held the names of Plato and Aristotle in the profoundest respect. He regarded Plato as more eloquent than almost all profes- sors of eloquence.
