Cause. — In 50 per cent, of all cases it is due to syphilis, secondary, tertiary, acquired, or inherited. The next most potent factors are rheumatism, gout, tuberculosis, and gonorrhea. It may arise as secondary to other eye diseases or be due to direct lesions, acci- dental or operative.
