There wasn’t a single seat left on the crowded trolley pulling away from the Fenway T station, but the five Beacon Street Girls couldn’t care less. “Hang on!” Maeve cried, grabbing Isabel’s arm as the train lurched, gathering speed as it rolled along the tracks toward Longwood. It was late afternoon on Sunday, and all the girls—Maeve, Katani, Avery, Charlotte, and their newest friend, Isabel—were coming back from a late-season baseball game. The Red Sox had gotten trounced, but that didn’t squel...ch the girls’ spirits. Not one bit. “Next year’s the year,” Avery declared, pointing to the big Red Sox logo on her navy blue sweatshirt. Everyone laughed. The legend in Boston was always that next year the Sox would do it. And in the meantime, it was fun just being loyal fans. Especially this afternoon. Maeve’s father had given her five free tickets, and she’d been able to treat all of her friends to the game. “How did your dad get those tickets again?” Avery asked.
