I shall do so, but no- wise in consideration to him, but out of tenderness and re- gard to our friend. Mr Hume is a scholar, and I believe an honest man ; but one of his best friends at Edinburgh at first wrote me, he had conversed more with books than the world, or any of the elegant part of it, chiefly owing to the narrowness of his fortune.
