Lindsay is one of the happy men who read a page at a time and therefore cannot spell ; I am one of the poor wretches who do their reading in the infant school style, individualising vowels and consonants with scrupulous care, and therefore useful as a cor- rector of the press. I look forward to this when I can lecture no more. Lindsay's book, if I am any judge, is a really masterly piece of work, and it pierces me to the heart that it should come out in a series. There are to be two volumes, but they should have been published as an inde- pendent work ; it would have been far greater glory both to Lindsay and the College, and the book would have had a far better chance of getting known as an authority.
