2. The unparalleled wickedness of this people, espe- cially as aggravated by the destruction of Sodom, was such as made the execution inflicted upon them a use- ful lesson to neighbouring nations 3 .
3. The people of those ages were affected by no proof of the power of the gods which they worshiped, so deeply as by their giving them victory in war.
