Lu the night of the 2d March the wind blew strong from the south* ward, a quarter from which a gale was very seldom experienced. M. , and, at the same time, canoe on a thick iog or haze. This was considered as a favourable symptom, as indicating a moister and softer t...emperature in the atmosphere. On the 5th a light breeze coming from the southward, the thermo- meter rose from — 2&> early in the morning to — \b^ at noon, and the weather, on the whole, became to our feelings so mild and pleasant that, after divine service, as many of the officers and men as could be spared, and were able, took a long walk on the heights round the harbour. This was the first day which we could regard as in some sort resembling spring, that is, the spring of lat. 75".
