JLoolving among old letters this morning I find at this moment (6 o'clock A. M.) joar letter, and hasten to repl}' to it.
No man, in my time, has shown greater ability as Chairman of the important Committee of Ways and Means than was exhibited by Mr. Lewis D. Canipbell, who held that position in that Congress when I was Speaker of the House. Other men in that position have been backed by powerful party majorities.
