The Texan loss was seven killed and thirty wounded. This battle was decisive and secured the independence of the Republic of Texas. April 22d, 1744. James Sullivan born at Berwick, Maine. He was carefully educated by his father ; he studied law, was admitted to the bar, and before the Revolution was ranked as one of the most eminent members of the profession. He was the King's attorney for Kent county. He was a member of the Provincial Congress, and in 1775, sent by that body on a mission to Ti...conderoga. In 1776, he was with John Adams, William Cushing and several others appointed a Judge of the Superior Court. He was a member of the State Constitutional Conven- tion, and in 1783 represented Massachusetts in Congress, and was one of the commission to run the boundary line between Massachusetts and New York and to settle their claims to certain western lands ; 1787, mem- ber of the Executive Council ; 1790, Attorney-General ; 1796, appointed by "Washington to arrange the boundary between the United States and the British Provinces ; 1807, Grovemor of Massachusetts.
