It is probably fair to say that the typical insurance agent mentions term insurance only as a last resort, when he is fully convinced that he cannot persuade his prospect to take an ordinary life or endowment policy. The mortality experience of the companies is not as favorable under term insurance as under whole life insurance, but this is the result of an adverse selection, which would hardly occur if term insurance were more extensively written.
