In appending his signature to the foregoing orders, General Babcock contented himself with the simple addi- tion of " secretary ;" but, whether to Baez or to General Grant, he does not inform us. Inasmuch, however, as the particular services to which these orders relate, were rendered for the Dominican Government, and at the expense of the United States, it is presumed that, like the boy in the show, having paid our money, we can take our choice.
