In the tatter part of the reign of Edward III. the estate was the property of Alice Pierce, the courtezan who obtained so dangerous an influence over that monarch ; and in the succeeding century it wa? possessed by Sir Thomas Trowickj whose ...second son. Sir Thomas Frowlck, an eminent lawyer, and Lord Chief Justice of the Common Pleas, was born at Gunnersbury, The 17th centciry presents a feature of some interest in the annals of the manor. The celebrated Serjeant Maynard* owned this estate in the latter part of that century. He resided here for many years ^ and here breathed his lasl» in 1690. Gunnersbury was purchased for the late Princess Amelia, Aunt to his present Majest}', in the year I76I ; and her Royal Highness occasionally resided, till the time of her death, in the manor-house, a spacious building erected for Sir John Maynard by fVebb, a pupil and son-in- law of Inigo Jones, in 1663.
