Edward I. gave the patron- age of this church to Baliol College, Oxford, which now possesses it. The church was rebuilt in 1677. It is a handsome building, and ...the interior has lately been rendered very elegant. A monument of Arch- bishop Til lotson adorns this church. St. Bride's, Bride-lane, Fleet-street, is another of those churches on which Sir Christopher Wren bestow- ed the greatest care. The church is a plain but neat structure ; but it is in the Jofty spire that the taste and skill of the architect is displayed. This spire was much injured by lightning oi^ the 18th of June, 1764, when several large stones were forced from their places, one of which fell through the roof into the north gallery, and another was thrown into a house in Bride-lane.
