What reading level is Macbeth book?
To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:
62-66 : * Which to maintain I would allow him odds, And meet him, were I tied to run afoot Even to the frozen ridges of the Alps, Or any other ground inhabitable, Where ever Englishman durst set his foot.' 105. If trembling I inhabit then, protest me . . . There are few passages of our author which have given rise to so much discussion as this. The reading and punctuation given in our text are those of the first folio. The second and later folios place the comma after * inhabit,' * If trembling... I inhabit, then protest me . . .' Pope read ; * If trembling I inhibit, then protest me,' &c. Theobald proposed : * If trembling me inhibit, then protest me,' &c. The reading of most modern editors is the alteration of Pope's reading sug- gested by Steevens and adopted by Malone : * If trembling I inhibit thee, protest me,' &c. Mr. Bullock proposes : * If trembling I unknight me, then protest me,' &c. Another conjecture, first published in the Cambridge Shakespeare, is * If trembling I inherit, then protest me,' &c.
