For this work of harvesting lambs are the very best. Usually from five to 15 head an acre can be fattened in about 60 days. The number and the time, of course, depend largely on the quality of the crop. Where there is plenty of grain on the beans and peas, pigs up to 75 pounds may be turned into the field, and they will do little or no damage to the corn as long as there are plenty of peas or beans. Before turning them in the field, however, some should be pulled for a few days and thrown over the fence into a dry lot, that the pigs may learn to like them.
Sometimes these crops are put in with the corn for fertilizing purposes only.
