Yet there are great laws which run through ...the bodily structure as well as the mind. The same general principle operates in development, a law of growth by use. The mind is built up by the gaining of knowledge — the development and in- herence of knowledge ; the body by the supply of food which is incorporated into the physical struct- ure. Continuous mental inaction produces mental weakness ; bodily inaction enfeebles the muscles.
