The purpose of this chapter is to assist the pupil in learning the alphabet. Take one exercise at a time, commit the letters at its head to memory, and ...then write the words contained in it over and over again, in accordance with the spelling indicated, until the letters are thoroughly familiarized. Each exercise should be written and read at least fifteen times. The writing should be done with the utmost care. Caution. To know that the hands should be used alter- nately is not enough . The learner should watch and see that they are so used. Many persons who learn without a teacher fall into the habit, without knowing it, of com- mencing each word with the right hand or the left, or of striking the space-key always with one hand or the other.
