Look you, at last your soul shall mount Equal with his ; shall see his driven By one fierce gust of vengeful breath A speck along the gorge of death.
33 What ! shall I speak then in his praise, That you keep silent ? Sir, he fouled Your early fame, his hang-dogs howled You up and down life's honoured ways; He took the fruitage of your days, And tramped it into blood and dirt. I see remembrance still will spirt In flame along your pallid brow, But you're a priest, and so must bow The head, and turn a patient cheek.
