" They went down into this cellar, which was a very long apartment with an arched roof. On one side, high up in the wall, were small windows, through which the ashes that destroyed the people gathered there, had sifted. Mrs. Brown pointed out to Mary a line on the wall, and told her that that was the height to which the ashes reached.
