Lessons such as they have given are not to be idly neglected when the time is gone when their services have ceased to be of immediate value. We shall not need to go to Marathon and Platea for examples, whose brethren have shed their blood on fields as fiercely contested as those ; and it would be idle to go anywhere for examples unless, in ren- dering homage to the valor and patriotism displayed by our brethren, we seek to reconsecrate ourselves to the same virtues.
