Dr. Richard Davy, in a clinical lecture on rectal fistula and haemorrhoids at the Westminster Hospital, says, in closing his account of the operation : '* After all -the haemorrhoids have been carefully removed, inject about one ounce of sweet oil into the rectum ; and should oozing be free plug the rectum." This he does by the means of a sponge covered with oil-silk introduced with a pair of bone forceps.
