This treatise is one of the most practical and scientific on the difficult subject of which it treats that ha...s appeared for a long time. With many practitioners displacements of the uterus are bugbears in practice, and the dreadful and heretofore imcertain pessary challenged* the question, " to be or not to be." The reason for this is partly due to the fact that displacements have not been studied as a rule from a physiological and pathological stand-point.
The normal and abnormal positions have not been dis- tinctly and scientifically defined. This book does it in a very satisfactory manner. The great variety of normal positions are noted, the various departures thcfrefrom are carefully studied, the value of bimanual examination clearly set forth, the utility of proper pessaries duly dem- onstrated and illustrated, while the strictly surgically operative procedures have a secondary place.
