He said every one of them was bad, and offered to abandon his opposition to the claims if aiij' member would satisfy the House tiiat any single claim was well founded. His remarks were commented upon by many of the Virginians, and among them Messrs. Goggin, Goode and Gilmer, in speeches of an hour each, which were all highly laudat(ny of the patriotism of Virginians and her revolu- tionary heroism, but none of them ventured any attempt to show the validity of a single claim.
