The corps fent from this country under General Monkton, was, I believe, for its number, one of the bed armies that ever was led to conqueft ; and yet, if I have been rightly informed, there was not a fingle regiment of them that could go through the manual exercife, or, at bed, they performed it mod wretchedly. It is likewife faid, that when, after their glorious and rapid conqued of Martinico, they were joined by the fpruce regiments from Europe, fuch was their uncooth appearance, that they were fcarce honour- ed with the title of foldiers by thofe gentlemen.
