In what may be called the country towns, the villas round about, generally on little knolls or a hill-side, are not inel^ant,— they appear to have no inhabited story but the upper one, which the thick-woven reed-lattice declares devoted to female privacy ; below this the wall is only perforated by small apertures, like our turret- win- dows.
