To stay at home he dared not, and, cutting a club, set out for the meeting, and going into the house, he seated himself withm eight feet of Brother Blanchard. He had just come from the East, where he had hosts of friends and as letters cost twenty-five cents postage, he paid nine dollars postage-bill, leaving three dollars m cash for other purposes. In the Summer of 1842 the lot on which the Methodist church now stands in Freeport was purchased for fifteen dollars.
