The fashion of the time permitted a wide use of the idea in grammatical forms that have since become obso- lete, i.e. debonarity, debonairness. Debonairly still occurs now and then. Study this combination of words in connection with fair and free, 1. ii. 27. Quips and Cranks. Quip seems to be of Welsh derivation, and means to move quickly, to whip.
