The machines used for this purpose are first " breakers, " which reduce the ore to fragments not larger than hens' eggs ; and then " stamps, " " rolls, " or other forms of mill to complete the operation.
BREAKERS. These are of many patterns, each possessing some peculiar advantage. Fig. 469 illustrates a very simple form, made by Robey & Company, Lincoln. To render its transport easy, over bad or mountainous roads, steel is largely used in its construction, replacing the usual heavy cast-iron portions which add so much to the weight.
