There are a certain number of amaent temples and buildings at Jagainathpur and Chutia, a few miles from Ranchi, and at Nagar, about 49 miles distant, which are evidence of the existence of a local art of stoneroarving in former times ; but in the M<^ period the masons for building the forts at Palamau are said to have been imported from Jaipur in Rajputana.
