Approximately 4,063 students received guided tours of the museum in the 1996 fiscal year. In addition, our footlocker exhibits traveled to over 556 classrooms throughout the state and served 12,271 students. As always, footlockers were fully booked during schools sessions. A new footlocker on Montana's immigrants was produced and was available for distribution in October 1996. All existing footlockers were refurbished and updated. Slide programs on Montana history topics were also distributed t...o schools: 2,776 students in 108 classrooms across the state viewed these programs.
Our volunteer corps, The Friends of the Society, has continued to give us invaluable assistance. Besides the Muses (who plan and host receptions) , the Docents (who serve as volunteer tour guides for school groups) , and the Department Assistance Volunteers (who assist staff with daily tasks throughout the Society) , a new crop of volunteers- -the Hot Shots! --was formed. The Hot Shots! serve as our rapid respond team, assisting with a variety of tasks needed to be accomplished ASAP.
