What reading level is Montana Outdoors Vol 11 No 3 Mar/apr 1980 book?
To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:
But the food is not carried in the pouch beneath the bill as many people believe. Instead, the food is stored in the parents' stomachs. Small, semidigested particles are regurgitated into the pouch and run down to a point near the tip of the foot-long bill. The young thrust in their bills and thus secure their nourishment. The pouch is used mostly for secur- ing food — when a pelican sees food, it opens its bill, plunging it down and forward. The long, slender sides of the lower jaw bow out and... the luckless victim is scooped up. After the scoop, the pelican strains the water out and the contents are swallowed immediately. Don't confuse the white pelican with the endangered brown pelican that appears on the West Coast. Brown pelicans aren't found in Mon- tana. But when winter comes to the state, the white pelican may be found wintering with its brown cousin — from California to Panama and along White pelicans (above photo: Dann> On), as much at home in the water as in the air, feed almost entirely on fish.
