More often than not, the game bird escapes: The pheasant makes it to cover, the sharp-tailed grouse per- forms three barrel rolls, an inside loop and a half-gainer flawlessly at top speed or, heaven forbid, the dog was pointing a seven-pound sage grouse which now flies out and shakes its "fist" at falcon and falconer alike.
