What reading level is Montana Outdoors Vol 12 No 2 Mar/apr 1981 book?
To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:
The seven herd ranges that exist in the Bridger Range (Fig. 2) are not all the same, and deer respond to this variation in different ways. Mule deer within the three west slope herd ranges live longer, but raise fewer fawns than deer in the other four herd ranges. West slope populations also have smaller home ranges, show less seasonal movement and exhibit higher winter densities. Because of this, we believe that deer in west slope popula- tions respond more slowly to changes in habitat conditi...ons, both favorable and unfavorable. They declined more slowly during the widespread de- crease in mule deer numbers of the early 1970s and have responded only slightly to more favorable conditions in the late 1970s. Mule deer popula- tions on some herd ranges along the east slope of the Bridgers have more than doubled since 1975. In early spring of 1980, prior to fawning, the total number of mule deer in the Bridger Mountains was estimated at 7,750. More than 12,000 deer— nearly 25 per square mile for the range as a whole — would be expected in the summer and fall of 1980.
