What reading level is Montana Outdoors Vol 19 No 5 Sep/oct 1988 book?
To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:
For example, less than 10% of the yearling bulls from the Gardiner-Gallatin area exhibit branching, while about 25% of the yearlings from the Elkhoms have branched antlers. Under the antlered regulation in the early 1980s, almost 85% of all bulls harvested in the Elkhoms were year- lings, between 10% and 15% were 2-year-olds, and less than 5% were 3-year-olds or older. This is a signifi- cantly higher harvest of yearling bulls than that which occurs statewide, and a significantly lower harvest ...of larger bulls. In 1984 and '85, 49 bulls were radio collared: 35 yearlings, and 14 2-year- olds. Monitoring these bulls during the hunting season revealed that 30 of the 35 yearlings— almost 90%— and all 14 of the 2-year-olds were harvested by hunters. These results indicate that under the antlered bull season, in an accessible and intensively hunted area like the Elkhoms, the majority of the bull har- vest is yearlings and few bulls survive to older ages. In fact, under this regula- tion, only six of 230 bulls examined were more than 2 years old.
