To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:
Department management over the years has been directed toward improv- ing vegetation by ( 1 ) monitoring plant composition, growth, and wildlife use, (2) converting previously farmed land to vegetation preferred by elk, and (3) fertilizing reseeded areas to increase forage palatability and production. Elimination of grazing during the primary growing season has done much to improve the native rangeland. Also, more than 700 acres of previously farmed land has been converted to highly productive ...and preferred elk forage through reseeding and fertilization. Studies have documented that the The Judith WMA provides winter range for migratory mule deer (above) and 900 to 1,200 wintering elk. reseeded areas on the WMA provide an average of 1 .3 million pounds of forage annually, compared with about 2.5 million pounds produced on native grassland. On a per-acre basis, the reseeded areas produce more than twice as much preferred elk forage as the native grasslands. The recent Rogers acquisition has added approxi- mately 1 ,200 acres of native grassland to the WMA.
