What reading level is Montana Outdoors Vol 4 No 4 Jul/aug 1973 book?
To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:
Water delivery can be improved by lining canals and laterals, using closed conduits for water transportation, providing adequate con- trol structures and requiring flow measuring de- vices. Improved management practices on the farm could help reduce waste water flows: use of new and more efficient irrigation methods, such as sprinklers in place of flood application; scientific irrigation scheduling to insure the proper timing and amount of water, and tail water (waste water) recovery and reuse.... A buffer strip of vegetation along the edge of a stream helps prevent stream bank erosion. If livestock graze nearby, the bank should be fenced. The farmer should not plant crops along the stream. Selective use of rock riprap (placing large focks along a stream to prevent erosion) in some areas could prevent further stream bed erosion. Changes in grazing policy to prevent overgrazing are also necessary, with the end result of better forage production, less erosion and generally better use of the land.
