What reading level is Mountain And Moor book?
To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:
We seldom THE FLORA OF OUR MOORLANDS. 107 or never meet with them extending into the midland and southern lowlands of England. Such species as the Alpine Ladies' Mantle (Alchemilla alpina) is found in abundance at the feet of the Scottish moun- tains, mingling with the more temperate species known as the Common Ladies' Mantle (Alchemilla vulgaris}. The latter we find further to the south, growing abundantly in the meadows of Cheshire, Nottinghamshire, and Worcestershire ; although it is still a... characteristic plant in hillside pastures, where its prettily crenated leaves and elegant form have obtained for it its popular name. This plant is an illustration of the curious fact that where the flowers are so intermixed with the leaves that destruction of the one involves destruction of the other, the leaves are avoided by grazing animals. The Common Ladies' Mantle is never eaten by cattle. In the southern and eastern counties the Field Ladies' Mantle (Alchemilla arvensis), with much smaller leaves, and altogether a less elegant and attractive plant, has taken its place.
