What reading level is Mr.Gladstone And Genesis book?
To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:
Gladstone evidently does notunderstand how there can be any hesitation on my part, unless it arisesfrom a conviction that he is in the right, I may go so far as to set outmy difficulties. They are of two kinds--exegetical and scientific. It appears to me thatit is vain to discuss a supposed coincidence between Genesis and scienceunless we have first settled, on the one hand, what Genesis says, and, on the other hand, what science says. In the first place, I cannot find any consensus among Bibli...cal scholarsas to the meaning of the words, "In the beginning God created theheaven and the earth. " Some say that the Hebrew word _bara, _ which istranslated "create, " means "made out of nothing. " I venture to object tothat rendering, not on the ground of scholarship, but of common sense. Omnipotence itself can surely no more make something "out of" nothingthan it can make a triangular circle. What is intended by "made outof nothing" appears to be "caused to come into existence, " with theimplication that nothing of the same kind previously existed.
