Dr. Wallerstein, has the Department of Defense conducted an assessment of the impact stemming the spread of weapons of mass destruction and advanced conventional weapons; if so, what are those assessments? Dr. Wallerstein. The Interagency expor...t control team, including the Department of Defense, continually assesses the nature and effectiveness of export controls. In this process, the Department of Defense considers the effect of any change in con- trols on the full range of U. S. National security interests, including the spread of weapons of mass destruction and advanced conventional weapons. For further infor- mation, I would refer you to a paper entitled "Report on Effect of Increased Use of Dual -Use Technologies on Ability to Control Exports" which the Department of De- fense submitted to Congress under the provisions of Title XIV, Subtitle C, Section 1422 of the National Defense Authorization Act of 1994.
